Kim Hovey volunteered as webmaster for several years, before her health forced her to give it up. Until then, she worked tirelessly to rebuild and keep our web site current. Kim lost her battle with lung cancer Tuesday morning (November 17). Kim was a strong supporter of DSA, and her husband, David related to me that Dog Scouts meant the world to her. She was so thankful for all that she learned through DSA, and for receiving the Nikki Zweber memorial scholarship in 2013, so that she could attend camp in Michigan. Kim called me a few weeks ago to let me know that she was going to take a trip to the Smokey Mountains to celebrate her anniversary. David said that it was a lifelong desire of hers to go there. She rallied all her strength to make the trip.
Kim is survived by her husband, David, children Amanda, Cory and Christine, and their pack of 5 fur kids: Aussies, Faith and Tonto (DSA), BC Mix, Scout, Wirehaired Dachshie mix, Goobie, and St. Bernard, Zachary. If you would like to send card to the family, it can go to David Hovey, 222, Kent Rd, Lakeland, FL 33809.
David called to let me know that it was Kim’s express wish that people know how much DSA meant to her and that in lieu of flowers or anything, she would like people to make a donation to Dog Scouts of America, or the American Cancer Society. DSA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. We will make sure the family receives a thank you note for all donations made in Kim’s name, and who made them (unless you prefer to remain anonymous).
Rest in peace, Kim. We will all miss you.
Lonnie Olson,
DSA Founder, Ex-officio President
